King Oyster Mushroom Skewers (12m+)
Why We Love This
If your toddler is tired of plain veggies, try this "Fake BBQ" hack! These mushrooms have a chewy, satisfying texture just like meat, and the secret glaze makes them irresistible. I use Mommy Lite Chef Tomato Dates Pasta Sauce for that perfect sweet and savory BBQ taste—giving you all the flavor without the added salt, refined sugar, or nasties found in commercial BBQ sauces.
Ingredients
- King Oyster Mushrooms (Eryngii)
- The Secret Glaze: 2 tsp Mommy Chef Lite Tomato Dates Sauce mixed with a splash of Baby Oyster Sauce (optional)
- Toothpicks or skewers
Cooking Steps
- Prep the Mushrooms: Slice the King Oyster mushrooms into thick pieces and blanch them in boiling water for 1–2 minutes to soften.
- Skewer: Thread the blanched mushroom slices onto toothpicks or skewers.
- First Air Fry: Place in the air fryer at 180°C for 5 minutes to achieve that chewy texture.
- Glaze: Brush the mushrooms generously with the Tomato Dates Sauce mixture.
- Final Sizzle: Air fry again for another 5 minutes until the glaze is sticky and caramelized.
💡 Nutritionist Tip
"King Oyster mushrooms are high in fiber and protein, making them an excellent meat alternative. Using Tomato Dates Sauce as a base provides natural sweetness from dates, which is a much healthier way to introduce savory 'BBQ' flavors to a child's developing palate."
